HOW DO I GET SAVED?
What
do you believe about Jesus?
In Matthew
16:15 Jesus asked his disciples a question: “Who
do you say that I am”
Peter
one of His apostles, was able to answer: “You are
the Christ, the Son of the living God” v.16
How would you answer
this question?
We need to understand who
Jesus is
Paul
writes in Romans 1:3-4 about God’s promise through the
Scriptures, “Concerning His Son Jesus Christ
our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according
to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God
with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the
resurrection from the dead”
In
Philippians 2:6-8 Paul says about Jesus Christ
“being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery
to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation,
taking the form of a bondservant and coming in the
likeness of a man. And being found in appearance
as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to
the point of death, even the death of the cross”
What did Jesus do for us?
“For
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life. For God did not send
His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that
the world through Him might be saved.” John
3:16-17
“For
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us,
that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”
2Cor.5:21
Jesus died for our sins
“Christ
died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
and that He was buried, and that He rose again
the third day according to the Scriptures.”
1Cor.15:3-4
His blood was shed to
remit/forgive our sins
“Without
the shedding of blood there is no remission [forgiveness]” Heb.9:22
We are saved through
faith
“For
by grace you have been saved through faith and that
not of yourselves; it is the gift of God” Eph.2:8
Why did Jesus have to die?
“For
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God” Rom.3:23
“For
the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Rom.6:23
Sin brings separation
from God
“He
who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he
who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but
the wrath of God abides on Him” Jn.3:36
We all need a Saviour!
His name is JESUS!
“Nor
is there salvation in any other, for there is no
other name under heaven given among men by which
we must be saved” Acts 4:12
We need to ‘believe’ and ‘receive’
“Most
assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes
in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not
come into judgment, but has passed from death into life”
John 5:24
“But
as many as received Him, to them He gave the
right to become children of God, to those who believe
in His name.” John
1:12
In
Acts 16:30 the Philippian Jailer asked the question
“What must I do to be saved”. Paul answered him
saying “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and
you will be saved!”
Having believed & received the
word of salvation – we are born again of the spirit
“Having
been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible,
through the word of God which lives and abides forever”
1Pet.1:23
We are ‘born again’ to enter the kingdom
of God
“Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God” John
3:3
“Jesus
answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one
is born of water [natural birth] and the Spirit [spiritual
birth] he cannot enter the kingdom of God” John
3:5
We need to born again
of the spirit!
What must I do?
Confess – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”
1John1:9
“If
you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart
one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation” Rom.10:9-10
Repent – that is
‘have a change of mind’
Peter
said on the day of Pentecost “Repent, and let everyone
of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit”
Acts
2:38
Receive – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears
My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and
dine with him, and he with me.” Rev.3:20
Steps to Salvation:
·
Believing
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God
·
Receiving
what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross – repent,
confess and ask forgiveness for sin
·
Invite
Jesus into your life, receiving Him in the Spirit into
your spirit
A simple prayer for salvation
Sorry – for my sin
Thank
you – for
dying on the cross for me
Please – come into my life by the power of the Holy Spirit
Baptism follows repentance and faith
Remember
Peter said to those convicted of sin on the Day of Pentecost
“Repent, and … be baptised in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins …” Acts 2:38
Jesus
said, “He who believes and is baptised will
be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned”
Mk.16:16
God’s desire is for us to be saved!
God
our Saviour “desires all men to be saved and to come
to the knowledge of the truth” 1Tim.2:4
