But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you. - John 14:26
Getting to know Jesus is the best and most important decision you will make in your whole life. In the Bible you will find a whole lot of books that teach us about God and who He is. In one of the books named "John", we are told how we can get to know Jesus and become a part of God's family.
It says, "As many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." We need to believe in Jesus and receive Jesus to become a child of God and be born of God.
The Bible says that John wrote his book so that we "might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing we may have life in His name". .Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God! What does that mean?
"Christ" means He is the Promised King and Governor. He is the One promised as a King who has all authority in heaven and on earth. Jesus has all power and He is the One who will judge the world.
"Son of God" means that He is God in the flesh! Jesus is God who became a man. When you see Jesus you see who God is. He is God Himself appearing as man so we can know what God, our Father, is like. You meet God by meeting Jesus, there is no other way.
The Bible says that "Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God". If you believe that Jesus is the promised King, the Ruler, the One in charge of the whole universe and all of creation, you will experience being "born of God. You will be a child of God.
The Bible also says that "whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God". So if you believe and speak out with your mouth that, Jesus is the Son of God, God in the flesh, then God will come and live in you and you will be able to live in God!
The Good News is that Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, came to die on the cross - this was an execution stake. He did this to forgive us of our sins. Sins are all the bad things that we have done that we know are wrong and have made us feel guilty and ashamed in our hearts and conscience
Instead of us getting punished for all the wrongs we did, Jesus took the punishment on our behalf so we could be free from being punished and held guilty. This has also removed any blockage in our relationship with God so we can know Him without any fear.
But Jesus not only died but He came back to life again three days later never to die again. This proved that He was the Son of God because He has power over death and death could not hold Him in the grave. He truly is God in the flesh and He is still alive today!
The Bible says that if you believe in Jesus and receive Him into your life, you will become a child of God and God will live in you and you in God. This is what Jesus called being "born again"
If yes, say it with your mouth - "I believe Jesus is the Christ, the King, the Son of God, God in the flesh"
If yes, say it with your mouth - "I believe in You Jesus. I believe You died on the Cross to forgive me of all the wrong things I have done. I believe You rose from the dead so I can have life and live with You forever."
Receiving Jesus means that He wants you to invite Him to live inside of you. Jesus wants to live in you by His Spirit. There is a simple way of inviting Jesus to live in you. It involves three steps:
1. Saying, "I am sorry Jesus for the wrong things I have done against You and others, I want to change"
2. Saying, "Thank You for dying for me on the Cross and forgiving me of these wrong things I have done. I believe you love me and have forgiven me."
3. Saying, "Please come into my heart and life, live in me by Your Spirit and make Your home in me."
When you pray this from your heart to Jesus He will come and live inside of you. You may want to use more words than are written. Feel free to talk to Jesus about everything - this is called "Prayer".
Now that Jesus is living inside of you, this means you are "born again, born of God, God is living in you and you in God"!
Now that you have believed and received Jesus into your life the next step to getting closer to God and experiencing Him saving you from your old life is baptism.
